Charlotte Helene (Krupa) De Ment

Charlotte Helene (Krupa) De Ment
Dec. 14, 1918-July 20, 2012
Resident of Los Gatos

Charlotte passed away at the age of 93, surrounded by family. The daughter of Polish

immigrants John and Zofia Krupa, she was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

At age 23, she joined the Woman's Army Corp and served proudly in Australia,

Guam and the Philippines during World War II. In 1948 she married Army Sergeant Russell Otha DeMent

and spent ten years abroad.

Their first two daughters were born in Japan, their son in Italy, and another daughter in France. Returning

to America in 1959, Charlotte and Russ built a home in Maryland, where Charlotte discovered her talent

for organic gardening. Upon Russ' retirement from the Army in the mid-sixties, the family moved to

California, living in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Charlotte spent 39 years shaping and planting the land

upon which they built their home; her hand-crafted rock terraces were much admired by friends and family.

Hard-working, playful and curious, Charlotte will be greatly missed.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years. She is survived by her children Sandra

(David Deuter) DeMent, Diane (Jay) Langston, Russell (Mary Susan Wilson) DeMent and Carol DeMent;

her grandchildren Stacy, Brennick and Heather and three great-grandchildren.

Charlotte will be laid to rest with her husband Russ at a private military funeral at San Joaquin Valley

National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA. Donations in her honor may be made to the Women's Memorial

at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, Inc., Dept 560, Washington DC 20042.
